Year 2

Here’s what we’ll be covering this term in Year 2:


English

In English this term, the children will learn about and write their own adventure stories, interviews, diary entries and non-chronological reports.


Maths

In maths, the children will be learning about multiplication and division, fractions and mass, capacity and temperature. We are also going to be encouraging children to deepen their knowledge of number bonds.

You can support them with this at home by practicing number facts on the Numbots website!

In the foundation subjects we will be learning about:

PSHE – Healthy me


PE

We have PE every Monday and Tuesday.

We will be improving our football and outdoor/adventurous activities skills across this term.

Children will need trainers for all PE lessons. Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing; this can be in the form of plain black tracksuit bottoms with elasticated legs, plain black or red shorts and a plain white or red t-shirt.

Please note:  No jewellery is to be worn on PE days.

The table below shows a list of topics that we will be covering in Year 2 this half-term and the dates that we will be doing each topic.

Each week, you can choose one objective to complete with your child at home.

Coding – computing topic (1 week)

Week beginning 24th February

Create a poster to show what you have learnt about coding.

Or

Write what you have learnt about coding.

Woodlands and jungles – geography (2 weeks)

Week beginning 3rd March &

Week beginning 10th March

Draw and label what you have learnt about woodlands and jungles.

Or

Create a fact file about woodlands and jungles.

Landscapes – art topic (2 weeks)

Week beginning 17th March &

Week beginning 24th March

Paint an urban or rural landscape and label it.

Or

Write what you have learnt about landscapes.

Understanding the unseen – RE topic (1 week)

Week beginning 31st March

Create a poster to show how science and faith help us to understand what we cannot see.

Or

Write about things you believe in that you cannot see, for example, God, air.

To share what your child has done at home, you can send a message/photo on Class Dojo or upload a photo onto your child’s Class Dojo profile.

Your child does not need to bring any of the work with them to school.

Please also encourage your child to read regularly at home, practice their number bonds using the Numbots website and practice their spellings.
