Here’s what we’ll be covering this term in Year 4:


English

In English this term, the children will be writing diaries. We will be looking at the texts ‘Charlottes ‘Web and ‘My Name is not Refugee’. We will think about the different emotions the characters feel throughout the story and portray these through a diary entry.

We will then be reading ‘The Egyptian Cinderella’ and will be writing stories based on this.

We will be reading ‘Charlie Turns into a Chicken’ as our class story.

Maths

In maths, we are going to be looking at;

Fractions – understanding improper fractions and mixed numbers

Decimals – looking at hundredths on a place value chart and as fractions

Time – recapping telling the time and looking at 24 hours.

Volume and Mass - we are going to be looking at heavier/lighter, full/empty, capacity and volume.


Topics that we will be covering across the half-term

History  –  Romans - We will look at the Roman legacy.

Computing  –  Spreadsheets

Science  -   Sound - We will be learning how sound travels.

DT – Mechanisms. Will be making pop-up toys.

PSHE  -  Healthy Me

RE   –   Science and Technology.  

 


PE

PE days are Mondays and Thursday.

We will be taking part in outdoor and adventurous activities and learning to play Quidditch.

Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing; this can be in the form of plain black tracksuit bottoms or plain black shorts and a plain white or red t-shirt. 


Homework

Every child is expected to complete their three-weekly reads, access TT Rockstars and practice their spellings.

Children in years 3 - 6 will be expected to log one read per day on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, then one between Friday and Sunday. If a child has not logged a read for that day, we will provide them with a space in class at break time the next day to catch-up with that read.

Children need to learn their spellings each week.
