Here's what we'll be covering this term in Squirrels Class
English
|
This term, we will be continuing with our work on “Communities and Cultures”. Our story will be "Lima’s Red Hot Chilli" which is all about a girl who is hungry and who tries different foods until she makes the mistake of biting the red, hot chilli. This book is a great way of encouraging children to explore foods using all of their senses (not the chilli though!). We will be modelling the use of vocabulary to describe colour, size, shape, texture, smell and taste. We will be developing our mark making skills through name writing, tracing and drawing. We will be focusing on our Core Words during reading, writing and sensory sessions. |

Maths
We will continue to look at numbers in practical situations, especially when looking at chopping up and counting out snacks. We will sort foods and then use them to explore position – put the apple in the bowl, pour milk in the cup, take the cracker out of the packet. We will link our Maths to PE and Soft Play, when moving up, down, forwards and backwards.
Topics that we will be covering across the half-term
PSHE – we will be supported to develop relationships with our friends. We will be sharing photos of each other and thinking about what makes us special. We will then think about our families and other people who help us in our school community and in the local area.
Science - we will explore different materials and their properties.
Art - we will experiment with making sculptures.
RE - we will be celebrating Eid and Easter.
We will be looking at and playing with “People Who Help Us”; looking at the Police, the Fire Service, Doctors and Dentists. We will look at the vehicles and tools they use as part of their work.
PE
We have PE every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday
This year we will be having three shorter PE sessions on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The children will not need a PE kit.
During PE sessions, we will be developing our rugby skills, which involve throwing, catching, racing and chasing.
Homework
Please share the videos that are added to Dojo, to allow your children to become familiar with the stories, rhymes and signs we will be using each week. Don’t forget to use your Core Word Boards at home. These will be sent home with the new children, when it is appropriate. Some children will also bring home reading books.
