Here’s what we’ll be covering this term in Year 4:


English

In English this term, the children will be writing portal stories, using Harry Potter as inspiration. Following this we will be writing Haiku poems. We will finish the half-term writing adverts. We will be using persuasive devices to write our own adverts to encourage people to join Cutenhoe Hill Primary School.

We will be continuing to read ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone’ as our class story.

   

Maths

This half-term we will be focusing on place value, addition/ subtraction, multiplication and division.

When adding and subtracting, we will be using strategies to check our answers.

We will be multiplying a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number using a formal method.

We will be learning to divide a 3-digit number by a 1-digit number.


Topics that we will be covering across the half-term

Software Clipart Animated Computer ...
  • Geography – Migration. We will be learning about why people migrate to other countries.
  • Computing – Animation. We will be creating our own animations.
  • Science - Ecosystems. We will be learning what an ecosystem is.
  • PSHE - Relationships
  • RE – Religion in society. How different religions worked together in the past and in the present day.

PE

PE days are Monday and Thursday

We will be taking part in outdoor and adventurous activities and learning to play cricket.

Please ensure your child has appropriate clothing; this can be in the form of plain black tracksuit bottoms or plain black shorts and a plain white or red t-shirt. 


Homework

Homework continues to be spellings, reading and TT Rock Stars.

TT Rock Stars homework will be set Monday - Sunday. Please complete 21 minutes of Garage and 4 Soundchecks. If this is not completed, children will stay in during break times to complete it. 

If children in years 3–4 have not logged the first of their weekly reads by Wednesday, then they will be expected to stay in and read, on a Thursday if they have not completed 2 reads and on a Friday if they have not completed 3 reads.
